BD is in search of a talented Senior Laboratory Leader looking to supervise the R&D electro-mechanical laboratory, supporting new technology innovation development and new product development of wearable parenteral drug pump medical devices.

As a Senior Laboratory Leader within BD’s Pharmaceutical Systems team in Dublin, Ireland, you will have the opportunity to take a hands-on leadership role in supervising day to day device laboratory operations, as part of a worldwide network of device laboratories. At its core, this role will give you the opportunity to develop laboratory competency in support of user-centric drug delivery solutions designed to drive patient empowerment, independence, compliance, and improved health outcomes.

Mission:

  • Supervises the onsite R&D electro-mechanical laboratory:
  • Is accountable for timely management and quality of the execution of test requests addressed to the laboratory
  • Is accountable for R&D lab efficiency and compliance to quality requirements
  • Leads continuous improvements to improve laboratory performance
  • Represents the organization in providing solutions to difficult technical issues associated with specific projects 
  • Selects, develops and organizes laboratory associates
  • Contributes to the harmonization of WW mechanical laboratory network
  • Works under general direction. Independently determines and develops approach to solution.
  • Proposes potential inventions and inform BD in accordance with BD Intellectual Property (IP) Process.
  • Ensures compliance with BD quality policies, design control product development processes, procedures, and practices through appropriate communication, training, and education of sound quality assurance principles.
  • Ensures compliance with all local, state, federal, and BD safety regulations, policies, and procedures

Principle Responsibilities:

  • Technical leading
    • Organizes the execution of the appropriate test method to verify product performance and perform the feasibility studies on various projects. In charge of logistics and administrative tasks to ensure samples availability and smooth tasks execution, sample preparation included.
    • Identifies, raises and analyzes all unexpected results. Responsible for proactively identifying and solving technical problems. Develops creative approach to solutions.
    • Generates all the compliant documentation in respect of internal principles to build comprehensive product history. Ensures release of all supportive documentation during feasibility and/or design verification and/or routine activities.
    • Develops understanding of project team needs and project/product development processes. Supports project teams in their test planning.
    • Contributes to test method transfer activities as sending unit SME or Leads test method transfer as receiving unit.
    • Develops, monitors, analyzes and communicates key performance indicators related to R&D lab activity for Design Center. Anticipates future laboratory needs and develops plan to address them. Pro-actively drives continuous improvement. Drives reviews with Design center stakeholders and issues clear recommendation.
    • Continuous learning: actively seeks to improve skills. Ensures key learnings are reviewed, learned and disseminated.
    • Innovation: Stimulates the triggering of creative and novel solutions and proactively seek at protecting BD intellectual property.
    • Collaborate in the assessment of competitive products, processes or new trends.
  • Lab associates supervision:
    • Selects, develops and organizes staff for efficient contribution to Laboratory activity.
    • Provides and drives detailed activities plan for Lab associates.
    • Trains, educates and supports Lab associates.
    • Provides technical coaching to ensure appropriate test method robustness and fit with product needs and laboratory environment.
    • Defines and delegates some activities to associates when appropriate.
    • Maintains appropriate skill matrix and Laboratory career path to ensure R&D laboratory continuity and service level for Design Center.
    • Defines development plan for Laboratory associate based on skill matrix need, individual potential and aspiration.
  • R&D electro-mechanical laboratory processes & best practices
    • Maintains legacy equipment toolset (maintenance, calibration, qualification) and information systems (Lab Book, Blue Mountain, LIMS, and associated tools and systems) .
    • Ensures lab capacity meet current and future needs (equipment & labor).
    • Is accountable for best practices and laboratories harmonization implementation in the Laboratory .

  • Internal
    • Regular interfaces with peers, laboratory associates, R&D technicians and engineers within PS and with connected functions.
    • Interfaces with Core Team Members, Core Teams Leaders, managers and directors.
  • External
    • Interfaces with suppliers and subcontractors.
    • Occasional interface with business customers.
    • Participate to internal and / or external audit.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must have a Graduate degree in a technical field.
  • Minimum of 8 years related work experience required (combination of work experience and advanced degrees).
