Position Title:                Application Specialist

Location:                        Sweden, Field based. Prepared to work in all Nordic                   countries.

The Application Specialist provides both pre- and post-sales support to customers on BD IDS product portfolio covering microbiology/molecular clinical diagnostic products. The purpose is to enhance IDS presence in the market by frequent customer facing events to support current users and growth of new opportunities.

The application support provided on the phone, by email or during site visit is in the form of troubleshooting assistance, technical product information, operation instructions, product  application information, operator training and a variety of  other application-related work (set-up, optimisation, workflow, IT-connectivity, etc). Application Specialist will have a broad communication network internally within the Nordic and European BD organization.

Main Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and conduct customer training for IDS products and applications.
  • Troubleshoot issues related to IDS product or applications by perform preliminary on-site failure analysis to identify root cause
  • Support sales efforts through technical presentations, product demonstrations or organizing seminar and user meetings.
  • Act as a key contributor of customer feedback to marketing, sales and product development teams.
  • Proactively share experience, knowledge and skills to peers and help to build an organization with strong professionalism.
  • Act as point of contact and project manager for new platform implementation (internal coordination for installations, external coordination of trainings).
  • Maintain an up-to-date understanding of current Commercial initiatives and strategies; maintain close collaboration with Commercial team to act on current initiatives and opportunities. Keep up to date about products and applications from competitors and keep up with latest advancements in the field of clinical microbiology diagnostics.
  • Represent the BD IDS business through participation at various global clinical microbiology related tradeshows/conferences as requested by Marketing or Sales team.


  • Master’s degree or above in microbiology, molecular biology or similar.
  • Preferably large knowledge of molecular biology (real-time PCR)
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience of working in a clinical microbiology laboratory or similar. 
  • Commercial experience desirable.
  • Willingness to travel mainly within the Nordic countries but also within Europe (travel about 50%)
  • Outstanding problem solving and interpersonal skills.
  • Required to be fluent in Swedish and English. Another Nordic language desirable.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and training/presentation skills.
  • Demonstrates maturity, resilience and the ability to stay calm under pressure.
  • Strives for continuous improvement in self, others and in processes and procedures.
  • Self-motivated and exhibits a positive “can-do” attitude.
  • Able to work with minimal supervision.
